Perspective and Skill

Executive Coaching is a confidential one-to-one consultation, or series of consultations, in which you have the opportunity to discuss how you will deal with a problem or opportunity, with a view to developing the necessary clarity, attitude and skills for effectively dealing with it.

There are a number of essential differences between discussing such an issue with a friend/colleague and with a coach:

  • Perspective: someone who knows you well or is involved in the organisation is unlikely to be able to distance themselves from the issue or assist you in doing the same. Without this sense of perspective you may be unable to recognise the implications, scope, etc. of the issue.

  • Professional skill: the skill of the coach lies in her ability to enable you to examine the issue fully, assess and evaluate your options, select your best choice of action, and marshal yourself for handling the issue. If appropriate the coach will also guide you in developing mental and emotional skills handling the issue.
